They Went Whistling — Barbara Holland

Most women undergoing a spiritual awakening will deal with issues of power, how it’s been conscribed and how to recapture it in a balanced way. They Went Whistling: They Went Whistling: Women Wayfarers, Warriors, Runaways, and Renegades is a completely underappreciated book that focuses on the different ways women have expressed their power in the world.

Note the unconcern, most of these women lived in times when their lives were artificially conscribed and the book has this happy unconcern, often seen in small girls “That doesn’t apply to me” they say in ways that are large and small, and there is power in this.
