Spiritual Emergence Network (SEN)

Spiritual emergence network

The Spiritual Emergence Network (SEN) is a group of psychiatrists and mental health professionals dedicated to helping people in spiritual crisis sort through mental health treatment.

It’s a fantastic resource for anyone who is uncertain about their sanity during a spiritual awakening, needs counseling from someone in a Western paradigm who is respectful of spiritual experience, or becomes unstable and needs inpatient care during an awakening.

I’ve never used it myself but I have consulted the network for someone who would have benefitted from inpatient care during a kundalini awakening. In the case of spiritual emergency, usually the ego persona is not flexible enough to adjust to incoming higher consciousness and the person ‘splits’ going into higher out-of-body states and refusing to integrate.

This is not the same as a typical psychotic break and a good psychiatrist from this network should be able to tell the difference. See Stanislav Grof’s work on the topic for more information.
