Mantis describes empath abilites — Guardians of the Galaxy
You could have knocked me over with a feather the first time I saw this clip. I’ve never seen such a clear description of what its like to be an empath in popular culture.
Important features of being an empath which are beautifully demonstrated by this clip include the knowing of deep secrets, how unexpected revelation of that knowing can be harmful, rejection by people who don’t want to be read, overreaction to rejection, and the ability to transmit physiologic states like sleepiness.
Empaths can be used as a party trick, then quickly discarded when people don’t want to deal with the intricacies of having someone know everything they are feeling. This clip demos not only the ability 1:1 but how it can play out in a group dynamic, most strong empaths don’t do this reveal for exactly this reason.
